A couple weeks ago, I wrote a blog about waiting. I decided to wait until morning to reread it and then post it. The problem is that when I went to look for it, it wasn’t saved. I thought I had been saving it, but it appears to not have been.  Ironically, the post about waiting shouldn’t have been put off to be shared. Isn’t that true about waiting? We wait too long to live out a dream or tell someone how we feel and then we regret not doing it.

My original thought was about the things we wait for, as if these things will be when our life will be the most exciting or be fulfilled or you fill in the blanks. Our calling from God can be like that too. We feel we have been called to do something, but then things get in our way, or we only get small clues working up to something to be determined. I referenced Abraham as being called to be the “father of the nations”, but then waited many years to actually see that calling being fulfilled. My current Bible study is tracing through the Bible and today’s lesson was about Abraham. Is that why I had to wait to complete this blog? God’s timing is always perfect.

We may never know why we’re asked to wait. We’ve been accustomed to instant gratification, like my dogs getting their treats. We want it all right now! But, if we look closely, there’s always a reason or at least a lesson in waiting. We may learn that what we thought we wanted wasn’t what we were supposed to have or be.

Right now, I am on my church’s search team, which means we are looking for our next permanent Pastor. There have been many times when I have felt impatient with this process and have to remind myself of the goal. We have been blessed with an amazing Interim and we would not have met him without this process and every day I am thankful for him. If our team had just chosen the first person we received an application about, yes, we could have been done with this process, but would it have been successful? Most likely not.

A song that has been running through my head the past couple months called is While I’m Waiting. It was a song in one of my favorite movies, Fireproof. This song came into my head before Christmas (a time when people are impatiently waiting) and soon we’ll be in Lent, when we’ll be preparing for Easter. This song can be fitting at any time of the year, in any situation. We just have to be willing to truly hear it. The lyrics talk about the pain of waiting, but also pushing ahead to keep worshipping and being hopeful while you’re waiting. Beautiful song-actually doing what the song says=hard.

Waiting is truly about being patient. I have heard many times, “Don’t pray for patience. You’ll get something to be patient for.” How true this is. We have enough things that we need to be patient for so let’s not add any more to that list. Let go and Let God.

Don’t wait until you think the time is perfect to fulfill a dream and keep strong while you’re waiting!
