One of the decisions you have to make when you’re self-publishing a book is choosing a Publisher name, otherwise known as a business name for your company. This is harder than you may think-I had to choose one or two words about faith. I tried many different ways to find the right words, including searching favorite Bible passages and listening to the words of some contemporary Christian songs. Every time I thought I had a possible name, I would search to see if anyone else was using it already. I lost count of how many combinations I tried that were already taken or too similar to a bigger publishing company.

One Sunday after church, I was determined to get this task taken care of and after an hour or so, I was getting frustrated with all my failed attempts. I then had a moment of clarity-I wondered to myself if I had asked God for my Publishing name. As I meditated on that thought for a few minutes, the word ASK kept jumping out at me. I remembered the following Scripture:

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened” (Matthew 7:7-8, bold emphasis mine).

As I thought more about that Scripture, I realized that Ask, Seek, Knock spelled ASK. Of course, I immediately searched the name for any similar names and I was elated that there wasn’t. I realized that ASK fit well with writing about faith-we have to Ask God for help, Seek God’s will in our lives, and Knock, meaning physically taking those steps of faith. Let’s remember to apply ASK in all areas of our lives!

P.S. I would like express my appreciation to all of those who have shown me support in my writing. It is definitely a “bucket list item” and exciting (and a little terrifying!) to see where this part of my path is going to take me. But, all I need to remember (and you too) is to ASK.
